Why a PDF isn't proof

    to change the name on a PDF certificate. Any PDF editor does it, and the copy looks exactly like the original.

  2. 2 weeks

    to hear back, if you write to the office that issued it. So most people never ask, and take the PDF on trust.

  3. 1 scan

    with Nyvarra. The code on the paper opens the issuer's own record, and a changed name doesn't match it.

What a scan checks

Not a copy of the certificate. The record behind it.

The QR code opens the issuer's signed record on Nyvarra, and what's printed is compared with what was issued. Nobody has to take the paper's word for it, or ours.

  • Issuers are reviewed. A person checks an organization before its name can appear on a certificate.
  • Every certificate is signed. Change one letter and the signature no longer matches.
  • Corrections stay visible. A corrected certificate points to its replacement. A withdrawn one says so.
