Request and use a signatory's approved signature

Add signature slots, request approval for specific certificate types and resolve changes that need fresh consent.

Managed signatures record a named person's approval for signature use on specified certificates. They differ from uploading an image of a signature and from the cryptographic issuer key that protects the certificate record.

Prepare and send a request

  1. In Studio, insert a managed signature slot using A professor signs. Publish the design and select it for the relevant certificate types.
  2. Open the set's Design page and Signatories. Add the person's email, printed name, designation and signing name where relevant.
  3. Assign the signatory to the correct slots and certificate types. Saving these details does not send an email.
  4. If offering a handwriting style, choose a supported style that can render the approved name at the available size.
  5. Send a request for the selected certificate types. Offer drawing, delegated handwriting style, or both as appropriate.
  6. Wait for the signatory to verify their email, inspect the certificate previews and approve. Check each assignment's status before sending certificates.

What the approval covers

The approval is tied to the presented certificate scope, including the relevant design and details. Adding a new certificate type or changing approved content can require fresh approval. The send process checks that the authority still matches the certificate being issued.

Understand the two methods

  • Drawn signature: the signatory supplies their own drawing through the approval flow.
  • Delegated handwriting style: the signatory authorizes their signing name to be rendered in a handwriting style chosen by the organizer. The consent allows style changes within that method; it is not a claim that the font is the person's natural handwriting.

Resolve a blocked signature

  • Not requested: finish setup and send the request.
  • Waiting: check whether the signatory received the request and needs a new access link.
  • Declined: read the response and resolve the concern before requesting again.
  • Changes need approval: request approval of the current scope rather than reusing an outdated preview.
  • Stopped: future use is no longer authorized; arrange a new valid approval or a different appropriate design.
  • Unsupported style or tiny output: choose a style that supports the name and fits the smallest assigned slot.

Do not forward the private approval link to someone else to approve on the signatory's behalf. An organizer's access to the set is not a substitute for the invited person's consent.

Send the signatory this approval guide if they need help understanding the request.
